Our pioneering engagement in the Northland Sustainable Tourism Charterresulted
in numerous ideas and projects to successfully reduce the resort’s
ecological impact aiming for carbonzero status without compromising the
luxurious standards.
Power
Our electricity bill is less than half compared to 6 years ago, despite steady annual increases of
electricity prices. 15 photovoltaic panels to feed renewable energy
into the grid, solar hot water, low energy consumption appliances
(fridges, freezer, washing machine, etc.), energy saving light bulbs,
switch-off policy when not in use, improved pure NZ-wool building
insulation etc. have a positive effect. Newly installed heat pumps
generate energy efficient heating and cooling to provide comfort when
required.
Waste
Recycling
of waste leads to minimal garbage disposal: Organic waste is fed to
the two worm farms and the “Compost Alley” (16 bins), while paper,
cartons and bottles are recycled. Suppliers are requested to minimize
packaging. Whenever possible, paper is used both-sided for printing or
notes.
Water
Rain is collected to fill 3 large water tanks and converted by the HomeSpringwater filterinto
high quality, well tasting water throughout the resort. The wastewater
is processed by our Supertreat wastewater treatment plant, so it can be
used as valuable below ground irrigation in the gardens to keep it
green and healthy.
No Chemicals
Our
no-chemicals policy is applied in all sectors of the resort: food and
drink are organic, cleaning of body, dishes and clothes are done with
eco-friendly tools and detergents, the gardens are hand-weeded and
nurtured with biodynamic methods. Guests’ laundry requirements are
handled with their comfort, but also the ecology in mind.
Fuel
The
4WD diesel car is important for use on the numerous unsealed roads in
the Far North and was the largest remaining black spot on our
eco-conscience until it was retrofitted to be fuelled by recycled
vegetable oil = waste oil from fish& chips outlets: carbonzero
except for engine oil and emissions-free, yet with a surprising wiff
from the kitchen…
Edible Garden
The garden contains a
combination of edible and aesthetically nice plants with subtropical
aspects. The hundreds of native trees and bushes planted within and
around Ora Ora Eco Wellness Resort are contributing to a positive
carbon balance. The paramagnetic tower in the centre of the garden has
a positive impact on vegetation and humans: filled with paramagnetic
rock dust from Tauranga and a 60 degrees crystal tip transmits it's
properties throughout.
It is essential that we make every effort to save our planet: It's the only place where we can get organic chocolate and wine.
